Three Types of Trains

Trains. When you hear that word, you probably think of an outdated cheap means of transportation. With the increase in modernity some regard trains as an outdated means of transportation but this cannot be further from the truth. Trains were discovered around 200 years ago and have come to be the most unique kind of transportation. Contrary to popular belief, the modern kind of train is faster than your average method of transportation. So what are the different types of trains?

The Steam Train

This is the oldest kind of train developed in the early 19th century. It is unlikely that the current generation have seen this train run. The steam locomotive gets its power from a steam engine. Combustible material s like coal, wood and oil are used and this produces steam that enables the train to run. This was quite a cumbersome model for it made the driver and the fireman very tired. Once the driver noticed that the train was running out of fuel, he had to alert the fireman who was armed with a shovel who would put coal into the boiler. If the driver failed to alert the fireman, the train would come to a halt. This train therefore needs a minimum of two crew members to operate. This train also results in harmful environmental effects once gases are emitted into the atmosphere

The Diesel Train

This train was invented in the late 19th century. The inventor of the diesel engine, Dr.Rudolf Diesel was the first to come up with this locomotive. This train runs on diesel and this is much cheaper and better than steam. This type of train does not require a fireman and this is the average kind of train used in many countries. This train became a popular means of transport for both goods and people. Use of diesel increased the efficiency and effectiveness of the train. The Diesel train has been improved to come up with an electronic version of it. This train however constrains the environment because of the harmful emissions of gases into the atmosphere as it consumes quite a lot of diesel.

The Electric Train

This is actually, the train of the future. This is the train that comes to the mind of many current generation folks when the word train is mentioned. This train was actually invented in 1837 by Robert Davidson. Some electric trains are fully powered by electricity and others have a secondary energy source like diesel. Fully electric powered trains have become more famous because they emit clean energy that does no damage to the environment. Usually an electric train draws power from a third rail or an overhead cable. The current drawn from the external source is then transmitted to the engine and charges it up making the train go at a supersonic speed. This means that this train will not run in case of a blackout or a power outage. This is the biggest drawback of this kind of train.

Trains are basically fun and enjoyable to ride in. One gets to see the natural scenery and learns a lot from the experience. Unfortunately majority of people have never seen the inside of a train. It starts with you.

Trains have been used for a long time now, and they will still be utilized for a long time to come. Back in the old days, they were used for very many purposes which in this day and age have considerably reduced. It is perhaps the fact that railway transport is cheap, and this is why many still prefer to use it. Inventions in this sector of transport too keep coming up by the day, and this is why trains are here to stay. So, in this modern day, the question of what trains are used for arises and there are a lot of applications that arise. These uses of trains in this era are as follows.

Transport of people

This is one of the uses of rains that have never ceased to exist ever since rail was invented. Railway transport makes up for the movement of individuals from one area to the other, and this has been going on for years and years. There are underground railways that have been built to ease this transport in the major cities which reduce traffic by a hundredfold as people can move quickly using trains instead of everyone using a car and this relieves congestion a lot. Electric trains make this travelling even faster as these trains go fast, and trains have been known to the one of the safest means of transport that there is.

Transport of Goods

Movement of goods from one area of a place to the other has also bee always known to be done by railway. This method is easier and cheaper for a lot of businesses that are looking to have their goods delivered safely and in a more financial friendly way. This has always been the case over the years and the fact that the railway system has considerably advanced in this modern day, goods can be delivered quite faster. The expansion of the railways system also means that more areas are accessible, and transport of goods is made much simpler with trains. The risk of damage is also significantly lower than air or road transport.

Connection of a lot of places

Places like India and most of the Asia as a complex network of rails which enables railway transport to reach the furthest corners of hose countries. This means that a lot of places in this region are connected and the fact that interaction is there is social development. This network of rails is evident in China as well as India and North Korea where a lot of people that is workers or just people travelling are taken from one area to the other. This means that this connection improves trade lines as well as improve the economies of these places as there is available transport for anything that they have.

These three uses of trains sum up the entire railway system but do not cover it all as there are other uses that are there. However minor these uses are, they are also significant and will continue to exist as long as the railway system is there.
